Organize It!

I have a Japanese kitchen, meaning it is small and has cabinets far beyond my reach or the reach of any normal human and no space for anything. I am not sure how Japanese cooks do it, do the vegetables chop themselves on some hidden surface I don't know about? They are usually rather open with a bar and a window or some such, but they quickly become cluttered and almost claustrophobic once you have everything put away or as away as you can get it when nothing is in reach and there isn't enough cabinetry.

They are some of the most impractical kitchens I have ever seen, especially as they are designed for short people, so why so many tall cabinets? I didn't just need a step stool for my kitchen, I needed a 3 foot tall step ladder. You should see me do my baking, I have to hop up and down, usually getting flour everywhere, to get stuff down. But any way.

Our Kitchen has very little space to store food. It is cluttered with microwaves and ovens and well, not much else but I also only have 3 feet of counter space. So with the power of the internet and the help of my father who sent them with The Mat I now have a very cheap and convenient spice rack! I thought it was a smashing idea when I saw them on the net. I am pretty sure someday they will break, they are just cheap plastic after all, but they were like $15.00 and store 54 spices in a completely customizable way. It even fits in my Japanese tiny kitchen, which I can barely do.

It is also very Jason friendly as you can see everything without having to move stuff. He is famous for that, things do not exist if something is in front of it. BBQ Sauce has been lost for months, tupperware might be lost for years with unknown food if we did not move so often. In any case I am tickled pink with my new storage solution and I now have a whole shelf to store edible food, well, as opposed to spices because I don't often make a dinner of ground ginger...
